The Czech Space Week, the largest space-focused event in Czechia, once again featured exceptionally talented and inspiring women from several countries. The 30th of November was dedicated to the Space4Women event, which had one goal: to show women that the tech-space world is accessible to everyone, regardless of gender or age, and that Czechia offers ideal conditions.
The more than one-hour evening discussion was hosted by Ivo Denemark, Director of the Startups and Innovative SMEs Division in CzechInvest, who welcomed four women from the space industry on stage in turn. First on stage was Daniela Jovic from Spacemanic, followed by Kimberly Sofge from TRL Space, Lucie Fojtová from the Brno Observatory and Planetarium and Ludivine Leger from OHB Czechspace. The women tried to tell the visitors of the event about their intentions, career beginnings, work experience as women in this environment, planned projects and their goals and dreams.
The discussion took place in a relaxed atmosphere, which was a credit not only to the frank answers of all the speakers who answered the moderator’s questions, but also to the actively participating attendees whose questions came at the end of the event. All visitors had the opportunity to have their questions answered and there was a well-deserved round of applause at the end of the evening.
Beyond their fascination with the night sky and all that lies beyond it, these four women share a position as role models for all girls who would like to be part of the cosmic world. They all agree that we need to show the world that technology and space exploration are fields open to all enthusiasts and that gender and age do not matter in this world. All that matters is how hard we can work towards our goals, act and not lose our humanity in the process. And it is humanity and empathy that women, in particular, bring to the work teams of (not only) this industry. All of them, therefore, believe that the best way to move humanity forward is through collaboration, and collaboration between women, and also between women and men. Because as Lucie Fojtová said at the end of the discussion, “Together we are doing better!”
