There is currently a significant shortage of women interested in investing or investing themselves. According to the report Funding in the CEE region, we have only 16% of female angel investors in Central and Eastern Europe. According to the report, the most common barriers to investing include:
– Ignorance of the possibilities of angel investing,
– Fear of risk,
– Low awareness of angel investor groups (syndicates) where female investors can connect to deal-flow.
That is why investment club LUMUS Investment Collective decided to prepare the second series of courses on angel investing. Individual lectures aim to navigate the possibilities, advantages, and pitfalls of investing in startups and increase financial literacy.
After the successful previous series of educational workshops Hello, Future Investor, the founders of LUMUS Investment Collective, decided to hold a second series of education workshops. Compared to the last series, the current one includes one more lesson focused on financial literacy in cooperation with the digital investment platform Fondee. The course takes place over four weeks, with online 2-hour workshops held once a week, divided into practical thematic units. Course participants will focus on financial literacy, the basics of angel investing, evaluation of investment opportunities, and legislative aspects of investing.
In addition to practical topics and an individual approach, course participants will also receive tasks simulating real-life situations, thanks to which they will verify the acquired theoretical knowledge. A novelty compared to the previous year of the Hello, Future Investor course is the opportunity to participate in the future investment process. That allows the course participants to see the entire ongoing investment process – from the startup evaluation to the investment payout. It is also an advantage to obtain a certificate by which LUMUS Investment Collective guarantees the level of knowledge achieved.
The co-founder of the LUMUS Investment Collective, Zuzana Zamborská, also describes the educational benefits of the course: “We constantly monitor the statistics on investments, and, unfortunately, we still see a smaller representation of women than we would expect. That is also why we work on educational events that will help women orient themselves in the world of angel investing. We are happy to give them a helping hand if they want to start investing but don’t know how to do it. There are currently more than 350 female investors from all over the world in the LUMUS Investment Collective. It’s amazing to see the growing community of women in investing.“
The Hello, Future Investor training course starts on October 11, 2022. Anyone interested in learning about angel investing can apply. “I highly recommend the great program Hello, Future Investor, which I completed in April. I was very impressed with the amount of information and experience we gained. I am proud that I could participate in the course and thus become an angel investor in the future,” says Jana Hudecova Zabunov from the Women’s Entrepreneurship Academy, alumni of the Hello, Future Investor program, about her experience. Participants can find more information about the course and the option to register on the LUMUS Investment Collective website.
